Hundertwasser - Chosen by PhillidaFriedensreich Regentag Dunkelbunt Hundertwasser was born in Vienna, Austria, on 15th December, 1928. He died aboard the RMS Queen Elizabeth on 19th February, 2000 and is buried in New Zealand. His birth name was Friedrich Stowasser.
He is one of the best known exponents of modern art and architecture in the 20th century. A strong opponent of 'the straight line' and any form of standardization, he followed this through into his art and architecture. A major part of the effect of Hundertwasser's painting is colour which he used instinctively, without associating them with a definite symbolism of even his own invention. He preferred intensive, radiant colours and loved to place complementary colours next to one another.
